The SSC Rabbinical Program
In 1989 the ABE M. & GERI COHEN RABBINICAL COLLEGE was dedicated by The Cohen Family of the Syrian Jewish Community in Brooklyn, NY. Our Rabbis are taught to be self-sufficient so that they can go out and lead communities in the far corners of the globe. We offer a comprehensive and intensive three year course of study with an emphasis on the practical laws of Shehita, Mila (Circumcision), and to be Sofrim (scribes). In addition to a refined academic background in Talmud, Halacha, Tanach, and History, our curriculum provides a solid grounding in the necessary skills of Education, Administration, Counseling, Public Relations and Communication. Since the program's inception in 1982, over 140 students have passed the examinations administered by the Chief Rabbinate of Israel. Nearly all of our alumni have been placed in congregations around the world including ten this past year. Several Rabbis have been placed in the New York community, including the Beit Torah and Ahava Ve Ahva congregations. During the course of the coming decade, we hope, with the help of G-d, to place 100 more rabbis in communities throughout the world The Rabbinical school is highly recommended by the former Chief Rabbis Hacham Ovadia Yosef, Hacham Mordechai Eliyahu, Hacham Bakshi Doron and the present Chief Rabbi, Rishon Le-Zion, Hacham Shlomo Amar.
